Trek for the children of Namibia: our honeymoon for UNICEF

Deciding to take part in the UNICEF Trek for the Children of Namibia was an easy decision for Evita and me.

We both donate as often as we can to good causes. About 10 years ago I took part in a two-day cycle race in the USA to raise money for Cancer Research, but when Evita spotted the UNICEF trek we both knew it would be perfect for our honeymoon.

We got married in May and really didn’t want to then spend a couple of weeks sitting around on a beach. So we decided to take on the challenge of trekking through the oldest desert in the world, raising money for children whose daily struggles make our lives seem blissfully easy. The trip has totally redefined our idea of a honeymoon.

After months of wedding planning, the training and fundraising for the trek has been an incredible experience. We’ve had so many people tell us they wished they’d done something similar for their honeymoon – it really feels like the right decision to have made.

So now our bags are packed, we had a big ‘send-off’ BBQ at the weekend, raising £500 towards our trek. Now we’re just counting down the days…trying to hold back the excitement!
